This Main Street building was built in 1896 to replace one that was lost in the Great Fire of 1894.  The first tenant in what was then called the Abbott block was the Prince Sisters’ dry goods store, whose previous store was across the street.  In 1913, the business was purchased by Zeb Merchant, who ran a dry goods business until 1954.
